Allure of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International 6,360 passengers
Currently, the world’s biggest cruise ship is Allure of the Seas, which for just a year was preceded by its sister-ship, Oasis for the Seas, before it came along 2inches longer and with 4 extra passengers and stole the title. To keep nearly 6,500 guests entertained, Allure offers plenty of family-friendly activities including the Dreamworks experience, a zip-line, theatres, flow-riders and even (unsurprisingly as they get everywhere) a Starbucks. But with many cruise ships in the making, Allure may not be the biggest for long!
Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Cruise Line – 5,208 passengers
For a short time, Norwegian Epic was the world’s largest cruise ship, but today it stands in third place. However, this mighty cruise ship could hardly be called puny. On-board, parents and children can enjoy a wide range of facilities such as the climbing wall, casinos, jazz clubs and teen discos, as well as watch resident magicians and even the Blue Man Group.
Freedom of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International (4,375 passengers)
Along with its sisters ships Liberty and Independent (which are all of exact equal length and capacity), Freedom is a great cruise ship for families. Every member is catered for as there are whirl pools, boxing rings and a mini-golf course to enjoy by day, and a relaxing spa to enjoy after a ‘hard-day’ at sea.
Navigator of the Seas, Royal Caribbean Cruises (3,807 passengers)
Along with its sister-ships Voyager, Explorer, Adventurer and Mariner, Navigator is another family-orientated cruise ship that specialises in fun and entertainment that all the family can enjoy. On-board guests can ice-skate, play basketball, go inline skating or indulge in a treat from the ice-cream parlour.
Queen Mary 2, Cunard Cruises (3090 passengers)
Possibly the world’s most recognised cruise liner name, Queen Mary 2 specialises in luxurious cruise travel. Really aimed at just adult guests (there is a child’s play room for those who do travel aboard with their family), the QM2 is a ship on which to indulge, relax and unwind by offering fine dining, spa treatments and classical music entertainment.
