Happy Easter!
Enjoying your Easter celebration is even more fun when you are prepared with, “Happy Easter!” in Chinese! Although most Chinese do not celebrate this holiday, for a few usually those more religious do indeed celebrate this holiday!
How to Say Happy Easter in Chinese
What I’ve found intriguing is trying to explain why Easter is celebrated with eggs and bunnies! When I begin to talk about how cute the animals are and how colorful the eggs are, it just doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. After a few such discussions, I even took a little time to research the topic–possibly the history to why Easter is celebrated in this way. But, you know what?! I didn’t find anything that really satisfied my curiosity.
I mean really, eggs with bunnies?! Why not eggs with chickens? (Well, we do have the cute little chicks running around the eggs, but where did the bunnies come from?) Eggs displayed in a nice, soft basket seem to make sense, but I still am having a hard time with where the Easter bunny came from (and how it is that he is carrying a basket!).
Well, at any rate, we can still learn to say Happy Easter in Chinese even with all of the commercial dreaming that surrounds this holiday. For those who celebrate Easter as the Resurrection Day, you’ll be right in synch with how this phrase is said in Chinese! Learning Chinese for Happy Easter is equivalent to saying, “Happy Resurrection Celebration!” (Which, of course, is where the phrase Happy Easter came from–a celebration that Jesus rose from the dead). But, that’s all but forgotten in American culture with all the fairy tale characters that have entered the scene!
Now, do you feel prepared to greet your Chinese friends on Easter Sunday? Hope so!
Remember to enjoy this great time of celebration with family and friends!
