The fourth of July certainly is a time for celebration! (See video below). Beginning this incredible day with family and friends is a great way to make this holiday one that will be remembered! Consider now what you will do to reach out to others and influence their lives.
As you look at your schedule today, it may be filled with a plethora of activities from going on a picnic to watching fireworks to having a late-evening barbeque at your home. But, one thing you can be sure of, is that the time you spend with others today will probably be the most fulfilling part of your day. So consider, how you will interact with others. What will you do to make them smile?
Exploring Our Nation’s Independence
The amazing history of our country itself is an example of the sacrifice and love of others. For an idea, the prospect of freedom, men and women have devoted time, resources, and life to the creation and preservation of this nation. Today, as you consider the sacrifice of our founding fathers and that of today’s heroes, keep in mind what an impact it has had on you personally. Although you may not see it as obviously, imagine what life would be like if there were never a country that pursued freedom.
Then, however, as you examine the world around you, you question whether anyone else cares about what has happened in history. My, how easy it is to forget what happened in history! For some of us, we may not even be aware of the kind of sacrifice that others have given. Yet, understanding our history is the key to moving on into the future and considering our part in the world.
Gaining Worldwide Perspective on Independence
In knowing our own history, we can begin to sympathize with other nations who have persevered in order to preserve their nation. With the diversity that is in this world, it is only as we begin to understand others that we can change our own perspective. By doing this, we will not only stretch ourselves in the area of compassion, but we will also be able to reach out to others and bridge the gap that psychologically stands between us.
So, in celebration of the 4th of July, take a moment to remember our history, contemplate how you can make a difference today, and look on into the future to see how you will connect with others all over the world! Whether or not you ever leave the comfort of your homeland, open your mind to the culture and history of other countries and people. Make this fourth of July one to be remembered for years to come!
